whoa boy is that a wrong reading from the start. this book is almost nothing like a Roth novel. Then again the main character is the author herself.  

She often finds herself lacking words. And alive with the magical thinking of a child. In fact, she is a child. But what is her name?

• so far this is a story of the girls orbiting around Lila - who is the dominant personality in the neighborhood. The way other girls pick up her mannerisms and interests and adopt aspects of her aggressive personality.
• p.107: Elena very nearly tells Carmela the story of how she showed her breasts to Gino fro 10 lire. But refrains.
• p.108: “I soon had to admit that what I did by myself couldn’t excite me, only what Lila touched became important.s"
