Listening

I'm an audio person, always have been. I occasionally fell asleep to Suzuki violin tapes in elementary school and tuned into the 5 Pearl Jam songs the local rock station would play at 9 PM on Thursdays (I forget what was the tagline of the segment). I like audio inputs, at times even too much. If that's possible. One can easily flood one's entire consciousness with audio (this is most of what YT & TikTok are, I'm convinced, even though they're ostensibly "videos"). To hear people talking can make you feel connected to a voice or a shared point of discussion, BUT that connection is surface level, and potentially deceptive and performative. Going on too long. Here's the list (in reverse chronological order).

Notes A rebroadcast of a segment from last year about sports betting. The reporter/presenter began a sentence with "anyways..." and I instantly tuned out, even though I found compelling the topic of how the ubiquity of sports betting could impact the future of sports journalism. We need to get rid of the word "anyways."

Notes An episode about Shen Yun. Which reminded me of a billboard for the Epoch Times that was used to be out on 360 heading toward Six Flags Over Texas. It had a headshot of someone vaguely appearing like Mark Ruffalo. Google "[weird epoch times billboard](http://www.google.com/url?q=https://www.rmpbs.org/blogs/news/epoch-times-billboards-denver)" and you'll find it.

  • This is Lorelei — Box for Buddy, Box for Star
